Casa no Meco is a single-family house located in Aldeia do Meco, a small village on the Portuguese Atlantic Coast. The proposal was a simple building with a pitched roof that follows the village identity and the longitudinal shape of the lot. In the street facade the small openings ensure privacy and inside, the house gradually opens to its garden. The materials and construction solutions respect the local tradition and hark back to well known images of mediterranean villages. It is through a contemporary approach of subtraction that the undesirable surroundings are contoured and the privileged sun exposure is exploited.

Fábio Ferreira Neves

Fábio Ferreira Neves is a young portuguese architect who has been working in Switzerland since 2012. Since then, he has developed projects as an independent architect both in Switzerland and Portugal. His architecture is characterised by an enormous attention to place, context and tradition. The use of pure and tactile materials in his minimalist buildings come together in a portfolio that has been awarded, published and exhibited internationally. In 2024 he won the prestigious “Europe 40under40” award as one of the world’s most promising talents in architecture and design.

We encourage designers and architects to share their best projects with the rest of the world so as to inspire the next generation and gain global recognition.
