This revolutionary proposal, aimed at the hotel industry, represents a global advancement. Not only would it allow hotels to expand their customer base, but it would also offer people in wheelchairs the freedom to not be confined to specific rooms for disabled guests, which are often associated with a sad and discriminatory atmosphere. Indeed, these accessible rooms, especially their bathrooms, do not align with the values and principles of Universal Design, where customer safety is often compromised despite handicap standards in place.
The room, with its “AquaZen” bathroom, meets the seven principles of Universal Design: equity, flexibility, simplicity, intuitiveness, safety, comfort, and accessibility. Additionally, the bathroom can be elegantly adapted to offer increased safety for the elderly or even wheelchair users, with the optional installation of a comfortable wall-mounted shower chair and grab bars near the toilet, based on the hotel’s suggestions or at the client’s request.
This hotel room, with a minimum size of 15 square meters, is equipped with an “AquaZen” bathroom designed to ensure universal comfort, including that of wheelchair users, all within a space of just 4 square meters. It features a sink, a washlet toilet, and a walk-in shower. The bathroom can be quickly adapted in a matter of minutes, without requiring any renovations, to install grab bars and a shower chair. Moreover, the sliding bathroom door facilitates entry and provides additional space savings.
