A collection of ten cafe chairs that explore a sense of quirk in design using a commonality of material and varied expression of form shape and geometry.
The ‘Twist & Turn’ series is a collection of 10 unique café chairs that explore the sense of informality & fluidity in design. Handcrafted in solid oak wood and stained in black with an open grain finish the chairs resonate with a sense of simplicity and quirk at the same time. Keeping the base of the chairs constant, the backrest of each and every one of them is unique in expression. In a subtle way the chairs reflect on the uniqueness of our individualistic personalities while staying unified in spirit.
The design is basically a fun and ‘ not so serious ’ take on a standard café chair. It stretches the boundaries of wood as a material to showcase its strength and fluidity. The whimsical approach to the chair design opens new avenues to how ordinary every day objects can be perceived and expressed with a freshness of design.
The design for the chairs aims at making us fall in love with all things natural and working towards a more sustainable tomorrow. It is an attempt to explore the beauty of wood and its ability to take on challenging forms and shapes when crafted with a sense of care and perfection.

The primary thought for the chair design was to take the quintessential cafe chair and extend its generic boundaries to come up with a whimsical aesthetic expression. The use of a natural sustainable material like wood gives the chairs a sense of rawness and finesse simultaneously. The strength of wood and its malleability have constantly been experimented upon to produce a design that is pure and quirky in fruition. A completely handcrafted product the engineering looks at near seamless connections that give the chairs strength and sturdity. The suede fabric used for the seat cushions showcase screen printed original artwork that is a recreation of the designer’s sketch doodles.
