To create a distinctive modern family home nestled in the serene, expanse of Red Beach, Hibiscus Coast, New Zealand. This project had to embody the essence of the regions natural beauty while offering a unique retreat for family of 5.
The design was to draw inspiration from the traditional NZ coastal batch {holiday home}, combining the honest functionality and simplicity of these structures with a modern, luxurious twist.
The interior design is characterized by its robust, minimalist design and efficient use of space, open-plan layout to enhance the sense of spaciousness and allow for unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape.
Emphasis would be placed on calming natural timbers, such as locally sourced kahikatea, to foster a connection with the natural environment. The timber had to be used in both structural elements and interior finishes to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Sustainable and eco-friendly materials would be prioritized.
A relaxed, tranquil environment, offering a retreat from everyday life. Large windows and sliding doors will integrate the indoors with the outdoors, allowing natural light to flood the space and providing unobstructed views of the pristine wilderness.
The layout would ensure comfort and practicality, with space-efficient storage solutions and versatile furniture that can adapt to various needs.
A harmonious sanctuary within travel time to Auckland City, reflecting the simplicity and rugged charm of a ‘Pure coastal living while providing a luxurious and serene retreat from the pressure of everyday life.

The design incorporates aspects of the ‘NZ batch,’ reflecting its historical context. By applying a modern twist on traditional architectural forms, materials and construction techniques, helps in preserving the historical essence and creating a sense of continuity within the landscape.
By integrating luxury materials into the alure of the interior, the design ensures that each space offers modern amenities and comfort. This include high-end finishes, state-of-the-art technology and innovative furniture that enhances the homes experience while maintaining the traditional NZ coastal home aesthetic.
The use of natural native materials connects the interior to the surrounding landscape. Materials like local wood, stone, and natural fibers not only evoke a sense of place but also blend harmoniously with the environment, creating a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors.
Employing reduced forms and a restricted colour palette helps maintain a minimalist and cohesive design.
