The municipality of Matosinhos is located on the northwest coast of Portugal. This maritime region, rich in coastal landscapes and fishing traditions, stands out for its unique combination of raw beaches and nature.
Casa na Praia, located in the parish of Lavra, intended to be the home of a family seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
The plot, with a clear east/west orientation, is located in an area predominantly consisting of single-family homes and enjoys an unparalleled sea view.
The goal was to create a house that captured the essence of coastal living, with a strong connection to the marine environment, that would age gracefully and respect its location.
Questioning the conventional layout, where common areas are typically found on the entry-level and private areas on the upper floor, the house was designed to maximize the sea views, with private areas on the lower floor and common areas on the upper floor, in perfect harmony with the maritime horizon. This visual connection with the surroundings is emphasized by placing the pool on the roof of the northern volume, maximizing the remaining area of the plot for a landscaped garden.
The lower floor houses the main entrance and the garage entrance. From the garage, there is direct access to the laundry room, storage, and technical area. The main entrance, via a spiral staircase, leads to the upper floor, where there is also a service bathroom. This floor is further characterized by a spacious social area, referred to as the games room and office, and also includes four suites, one located in the main body and the others in the slimmer northern wing.
The house is adorned in tones that reflect the natural palette of the surroundings.
